Roy Lucke

Mr. Lucke graduated from Grant Community High School in the Class of 1966. While a student at Grant, he served as a member of the National Honor Society and participated in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including athletics, activities and the music program. He then continued his studies at Northwestern University earning an undergraduate degree in Education. He substitute taught while also serving as a volunteer paramedic and firefighter. Mr. Lucke then continued on to earn a graduate degree at Northwestern University in Management and embarked on a career in public safety. Early on in his career, he served as a police officer in both the Fox Lake and Lake Forest Police Departments. He then began an illustrious 40-year career at Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, ultimately serving as the Director of Research and Director of Traffic Safety Programs for more than a decade. While at Northwestern, he was a contributor, editor, and/or reviewer of a number of authoritative texts in Traffic Crash Investigation and Traffic Crash Reconstruction. Mr. Lucke has an extensive background in research and consulting. He was selected to serve on two committees at the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and was the recipient of the 2013 Highway Safety Leader Award from the Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge, recognizing a lifetime of achievements in traffic safety. He has consulted with police departments and departments of transportation throughout the United States and around the world and has been called on to provide expert testimony for vehicular crashes and/or law enforcement operations. Mr. Lucke also found time for public service, serving as a member and as President of the Big Hollow District 38 Board of Education and the Fox Lake Planning Commission. While he recently began enjoying retirement, he continues to serve as Trustee of the Fox Lake/Grant Township Area Historical Society, Vice President of the Fox Lake Police Pension Board, and Director of the Libertyville Township Soccer Complex.
